Today I am on Day 3 of this revamped eating plan; same foods and amount just broken up over 6 small meals. All I can say at this point in the game is that I am still hungry and borderline ill. Not ill as in sick, yet, but ill as is cranky. Something is going to have to give!
Tomorrow I go for my weigh in and the MRC girls and I are going to have to meet somewhere in the middle, come to some sort of agreement. I can’t continue on in this manner. When you are exercising and burning as many calories as I do in a week you have to fuel your body. My body doesn’t feel fueled.
Several of my running friends are upset that I am attempting to diet while running as hard and much as I do. In a way I agree with them. It is extremely difficult to do both! Remember I started this weight loss journey long before I became a running nut. I’ve lost almost 75 pounds and only have approximately 15-20 left to go in order to meet my goal. Will I ever be able to get there? *sigh*
Tuesday, while on our nightly run I discussed some of this with P and told her I was really at an impasse, so to speak. I’m at a good weight, I guess, but not where I want to be, you know, my GOAL. Do I stop here or press on? I’m extremely discouraged and the past few days have been especially hard. So hard that I feel close to tears at times because I am hungry. I am also one that self medicates with food so I have to be extremely cautious.
I had one friend suggest I not “diet” per say but cut out all the sugar, white flour and processed food. Heck, I’m already doing that! I don’t eat anything that isn’t raw or cooked from raw ingredients. It is also rare I actually go out to eat and when I do I usually get a salad because it is safe. I don’t know what more I can cut out of my diet. The only prepackaged products I consume are the few nutritional supplements I eat/slurp down during my runs.
HELP!
I am spinning my wheels. Seeing my weight loss journey to the end is extremely important but so is my ½ marathon training.
Any advice or tips are welcome!

Jacquiline, I know how you feel. I am up about 5 pounds from last summer. :( I still weigh 45 pounds less than at my heaviest, but still...
You know what your body needs. Your friends (including me) are concerned. You are smart and know what you are doing. I think we all just panicked when the word "diet" was mentioned because we all know the energy it takes to do this.
Sometimes we train so hard that our body holds on to everything it has. Keep plugging along and don't worry about it so much. (I KNOW that is hard to do). When your body catches up and realizes that you are supplying the energy it needs, it will respond.
Hang in there!
Sorry I spelled your name wrong!!!!
Let me try this again!! I posted a comment and then opened up an account then came back to check and the comment was gone!!! All of that work gone!! LOL
Jacqueline, you know that I know what you are talking about!!! I even gained weight after I started running because I was "carbing" up!! Well we need some carbs but not as many as most runners eat! Protein and veggies will fuel us also! I was NOT eating enough fuel for the runs and my body was holding onto everything! I started training with Colby (Tamara and Carrie now train with him also) and it really made a difference. He treats the WHOLE BODY! We are to be train our body, mind, and spirit. He does not have me on a "DIET" but an eating plan! I am to eat as much as I need! I have lost 15 pounds in less than two months eating more than I ever have!
For breakfast I had 1/2 cup oats (one cup cooked) 1/4 cup of almonds, honey and lots of cherries. One cup of watermelon for a snack. For lunch I will have 1 bag of broccoli slaw, vinegar, oil, noodles, craisins, green onion, a whole avadaco, crab meat, and almonds. Don't know what I will have for snack or supper yet. I have more energy and my last two races have been faster! When I was eating less I was running out of energy and even training became hard. If you ever want to talk with Colby let me know. He will only take clients that are willing to pray and get closer to the Lord and I know that is not a problem with you! My journey has really changed and is continuing to change.
I know that the weight is important but your health is MORE important! This is a hard lesson that I am still learning and he will catch me not eating enough and remind me that I am a temple that need to be strong. I love the idea of making everything that I put into my mouth a praise worship! He really has me looking at food in a whole new light.
I looovve the picture! Your sense of humor is evident even though you are frustrated.
Remember, you have already accomplished a magnificent feat ... major weight loss and a changed mind/life.
My thoughts are to say take a deep breath and don't panic. Don't be afraid cuz you can't gain 75 pounds anytime soon with your current running schedule. AND you are not the same person you were, trust who you have become.
Try tweaking your weight routine (if you arent doing weights then add some) because that will positively affect your weight loss and running.
I'm not sure what to say about your eating. I have not had your success but it does sound like you are working too hard. You can still go after the goal but I don't think it will be accomplished if you are hungry, frustrated, frenzied and scared.
Relax, pray, redirect and refocus. You got this. I know it even if you don't.
runnergrl50 you said it all! We are so eager to look back at where we were and not where we are today!
Jacqueline be proud of what you have accomplished and praise the Lord that you are off the couch and making a difference in your life, your kids lives, and the lives of all those around you. There have been so many times when I was hurting so bad (I try not to let anyone know) and I saw your smile and it warmed my heart so much that I was able to finish my run! I don't think you realize just how much the twinkle in your eyes and your smile effects people and we can see Jesus through you!!
